A Toorak knockdown rebuild has become one of the most expensive homes in Melbourne’s luxurious suburb with a deal in the high $30m range.

The undisclosed sale price, toasted on Instagram as having ‘almost 40,000,000 reasons to celebrate’, eclipsed the $12.2m the 1995sq m property last sold for just four years ago.

Deague Group chief executive William Deague and his wife were the sellers of the extravagant Toorak Garden Residence at 802 Orrong Rd, designed by Conrad Architects.

The development company boss had the stylish pad built across two years but declined to reveal details of the sale other than to say he and his wife had greatly enjoyed living there.

It was a great family home which we enjoyed living in for the past two years, we have two kids and it’s perfect for us, he said.

The Herald Sun understands the house was purchased by Melbourne-based Australian in their twenties.

A swish pool, curved staircase, and sculptural ‘reflection pond’ in the private entry court are design statements.

Meanwhile, an installation of 50 ball lights by Articolo graces the dining space.

Conrad Architects director Paul Conrad said the property’s outdoor precinct and plantings were created by the famous garden designer Paul Bangay.

Mr Conrad said a large focus of the project was integrating the house into the landscape and garden, with extensive views from the windows to the exterior greenery and pool.

Mr Conrad described the Toorak Garden Residence as ‘probably one of the most impressive’ that he had ever designed.

It’s featured in several design and architecture magazines.

We do quite a few houses overseas, including in New York, and this house is probably an equivalent to an international standard, he said.
