Releasing lien on property raises questions

After a brief discussion, Jasper City Council members agreed to release a lien on a property at 1603 Barker Street.

The vote to release the lien came after council member Willie Moore questioned whether the practice would be available to all residents who currently own property that’s being held under a lien by the city.

City clerk Kathy Chambless said city attorney Russ Robertson is working on an ordinance that would clarify the issue. The new ordinance should be completed by mid-September, Chambless said.
