Residents have been left shocked after the developers who were set to build an over-50s complex pulled out.
The new ‘extra care’ housing was earmarked for the former Meadows School site in Biddulph. But following changing Government regulations affecting social landlords, the Right to Buy scheme and a lengthy planning process, the housing company claimed the project was no longer viable.
Now Staffordshire County Council, which owns the land off Tunstall Road, is trying to find an alternative use. Residents are still pinning their hopes on another firm swooping in to create a complex for the elderly.
Biddulph town councillor John Redfern said: “I am disappointed. It’s something that Biddulph needed for the elderly population.
