Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal has chosen Glasgow as its fifth key location in its ongoing regional expansion in the UK. The new office expands A&M’s tax offering to funds and asset managers in Scotland and the UK.

With almost 400 partners and more than 2,000 advisors in nearly 50 countries, Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is one of the world’s largest professional services firms. A&M’s diverse offering includes debt restructuring solutions, insolvency, and creditor advisory offerings for clients. The firm also applies its operational know-how to corporate performance improvement and transformation projects. Alongside a number of new appointments across its global operations, A&M has also been working to expand its office count.

Along with a locale in London, the last year has seen the consultancy strengthen its presence in the UK by opening regional offices in Leeds, Birmingham, and Manchester. Now, A&M has chosen Glasgow as the fifth key location in its on-going regional office expansion in the UK.

2020 sees Scotland facing significant uncertainty, with the impact of Brexit, fluctuating currency rates, job losses in the manufacturing sector, and changes in consumer spending meaning that firms may need to make fundamental changes to protect and grow their businesses. Based at the heart of Glasgow city centre, the new team will be part of Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, and in addition to working with private clients in Scotland, it will significantly bolster the firm’s tax advisory capabilities across the UK – especially as it sees A&M headhunt talent from the tax and client services teams of two Big Four members.

The office will be led by Donald Campbell, who joins as a Senior Advisor from Deloitte, where he led the private client services team. Campbell brings more than 30 years of tax experience to the role, advising both individuals and corporates on tax related to M&A, real estate, funds and succession planning. He will be joined by Jordan Brown, who comes to A&M as a Director from EY’s Funds Tax team. Brown’s CV boasts more than 10 years of experience advising private clients and asset managers on tax issues. Charlotte Walker, previously a Tax Advisor at EY with over three years’ experience advising asset management clients, also joins the office.

Campbell said of the news, Glasgow has long been a significant hub for asset managers in the UK, so it was the natural next step for A&M to open its office here. We are committed to growing a team of specialists across all levels in Glasgow, who can advise clients throughout Scotland using A&M and A&M Taxand’s global capabilities and expertise. Glasgow continues to grow in prominence as a centre for UK businesses. As a fast-growing UK city, we are committed to helping businesses here achieve their goals.
