Development plan continues to face opposition

Worcester

Neighbours have continued their opposition to the resubmitted plans

A controversial plan to build 50 homes on a former city golf course continues to face a flurry of objections.

Housing association Bromford put proposals back on the table for affordable housing on the former Tolladine golf course in Worcester despite being rejected earlier this year.

Neighbours have continued their opposition to the resubmitted plans.

An objection from a resident in Cover Green said: Demolishing good, recently built houses is environmentally unacceptable and a total waste of the earth’s precious resources.

This proposal will lose a precious residential amenity for the people of the area. I have walked on this area for 15 years and it has always been well used but particularly during the lockdown period, the resident said.

We are told space and fresh air is hugely beneficial for mental health and exercise is essential for physical health, the resident said. This area provides those benefits for free and taking it away would be detrimental to the residents.

There are not enough open areas and those we have should be protected, the resident said.

One objector in Kenwood Avenue said: This space is an inner-city green space used by dog walkers and walkers. It is one of the highest points in Worcester with commanding views over the city. Access via Darwin Avenue is totally unsuitable for the increased volume of traffic as well as the construction traffic.

Another objector in Chesterton Gardens said: This green space is invaluable to residents, not only for dog walking but for children to play and run around in, and for spotting wildlife. During all the lockdowns when walking was our only daily activity, we visited every day. The green space was vital for our mental health.
