Plans to turn a house into a new children’s care home on a Derby street have been dropped after meeting with almost 100 objections.
A planning application was submitted in November to Derby City Council asking for a change of use on a property in Babbacombe Close in Alvaston to become a children’s home for up to four youngsters.
Documents stated that a firm called Positive Outcomes childcare wanted to operate the home.
The plans stated there would have been four children between 8 and 18 years old living at the property diagnosed with moderate to severe Learning Disabilities, as well as trained staff providing the children with 24-hour care.
There were also no plans to change the layout of the property or make any amendments to the building.
A planning statement added: They (the children) would be fully supervised by staff in the home at all times. The young people residing at this home are not able to leave the home unsupervised due to their vulnerabilities.
The area where the home is located has plenty of local amenities and is a well-established neighbourhood. Overall, we believe that this will have a very positive impact on the local community, the statement added.
However, since plans were submitted, 93 objections have been raised to the proposals from residents as well as all of the three Alvaston councillors.
Councillor John Evans said the plans would be entirely to the detriment of all local residents who have for many years enjoyed living in a community-spirited, quiet residential area.
He raised concerns over parking, and said the properties were built entirely for residential use and as such are not intended to be used by companies to operate businesses from.
Fellow councillor Kirk Kus wrote an objection letter stating: I’ve already seen videos of bin lorries struggling to get down the cul-de-sac and additional cars on the road will increase this problem.
He said: The application will generate around four times the amount of traffic which is unsustainable.
