Watford’s surge of people looking to sell their homes was the fifth biggest rise in England

House sale enquiries in Watford increased by a shocking 210% between January and May this year compared to the same time duration in 2020, perhaps due to the stamp duty holiday since last July.

Watford’s sudden surge of people looking to sell their homes was the fifth biggest rise in England.

Watford in Hertfordshire is seen by many as a desirable place to live because of its good schools and exceptional transport links to the Capital.

The top spot was held by Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, with an 1100% increase, while Welwyn Hatfield had the ninth highest rise (157%) in the country.

The survey was collated by home buying company We Buy Any Home. They based the data on enquiries submitted to their website between January 2018 and May 2021.

Watford had the second-highest rise in Hertfordshire for house sale enquiries (63.16%) between 2018 and 2021. More sale enquiries were placed for homes in Welwyn and Hatfield (111.76%) over the 3.5-year period.

The areas with the least home sale enquiries this year were Stevenage, with a 7% decline, and North Hertfordshire, with a 24% decline. East Hertfordshire saw no change in the number of enquiries.

Nearly 16% of people were selling their second home. Nearly 12% of Hertfordshire homeowners were going through a breakup or divorce, which fuelled them to leave their home. This statistics is double the average for England, where just 6% of people sold their homes due to a relationship breakdown.

Relocating, financial difficulties and inheritance were the least frequent reasons for Hertfordshire home sale enquiries, which each accounted for nearly 3% of enquiries.
